I think for best results, all of these different motivation techniques need to be used together.

For example, when Ford automobile company started out in the US, it had great efficiency and output and soon became one of the richest companies in the US. The reason for this was because they knew how to motivate their employees. Working in a production line is not at all easy, but with rewards (vacations, cars, membership services) and great communication and unity, the Ford company always kept its employees motivated.

Today's companies still have lessons to learn about motivation.

Rewards are great too, but personally, I find recognition and positive feedback to be much more encouraging and motivational.

If my hard works gets recognized and I hear praise from my employer, I feel very happy and feel like working even harder. If all I hear is criticism of my work and no recognition, I lose all motivation.
